I’m sure you’ve all played Sonic games. One of them that is really popular is Sonic CD. There’s an Easter egg where if you stand still long enough, Sonic will shout “I’m out of here” and hop off to the bottom of the screen, thus getting you a game over.
Well, recently I have a disturbing experience with this easter egg.
It all started with me playing Sonic CD on a Sega CD emulator. I was around the end of Wacky Workbench Act 2. I suddenly had to use the bathroom urgently and forgot to pause my game.
When I got back and sat down, Sonic did the “I’m out of here!” easter egg and hopped to the bottom of the screen. I was confused but realized I hadn’t paused like I said earlier.
Then, suddenly, as soon as he hopped off, an ear-piercing scream was heard. I immediately jumped in fright and lowered the volume. As this happened, the emulator glitched and a white error message (which usually appears when an emulator crashes for Sega games) appeared.
I restarted the emulator and when it loaded back up, everything was fucked up and glitched. I pressed start and it began on the normal first level, Palmtree Panic.
For whatever reason, Sonic’s head was replaced by Metal Sonic’s and the graphics for the level were made out of bits of sprites and other level graphics.
I tried to move the weird sprite and it wouldn’t budge no matter how many times I tried.
The character suddenly turned its face to the screen and said in a distorted and loud voice “I’m out of here!”. Instead of jumping off after saying that, it just stared at the screen. Then, the emulator crashed once again.
So, anyway, I just wanted to share about that. It was nothing paranormal and I thought maybe the ROM I got was hacked by the uploaders as some sort of fucked up joke.
That’s all. Thanks for reading!
